"Providing support to adults
with developmental disabilities in their communities."
We achieve our mission through a variety of programs addressing various
needs of people served. These programs include:
Adult Developmental Vocational Program: Our largest program focuses
on teaching individuals work skills and appropriate interaction in
the workplace. Social and independent living skills are a secondary
focus. Participants earn a paycheck while simultaneously learning necessary
skills to be employed within the community.
ICFMR (Intermediate Care
Facilities for Mentally Retarded): These two programs are interchangeable;
however, staff/consumer rations are smaller with ICFMR, due to the
intensity of the participant need.
Compensatory Education: This is a collaborative service offered in
cooperation with Wake Technical Community College. Courses are designed
to empower adults with disabilities who are receiving services from
Wake Enterprises.
CDS: Designed to assist individuals with acquisition, retention, or improvement in self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills. Modules are set up to provide a variety of options that create a stimulating environment for people served and is driven by the individual person-centered plan.
CAP: This Medicaid waiver provides one-to-one or small group services
to participants with more intensive needs.
Job Enclaves: When the opportunity for on-site jobs is available, we form groups
of participants, called enclaves or "mobile crews" to travel
to area businesses to perform work.
Supported Employment: From short-term group placements to long-term
individual employment, supported employment means working for pay in
an integrated setting. Participants work with an Employment Specialist
to attain and maintain jobs making at least minimum wage within the
community. We provide support and training; our participants provide the
hard work and dependability.
Q: How does an individual become a Wake Enterprises participant?
A: All participants are referred to Wake Enterprises through the Wake
County "Single Portal System." The first step in becoming
a Wake Enterprises participant is to contact the Single Portal Coordinator
at the Wake County Department of Human Services, 857-9110.
